The Year 2000 was the International Year for the Culture of Peace. On this special occasion, a global movement for a culture of peace was initiated by the United Nations. The aim is to unite those already working for a culture of peace. This movement is now growing with the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the children of the world (2000 - 2010) (UN Resolution A/RES/53/25).

Peace is in our Hands
Darshan Academy schools are working at an educational level towards a Culture of Peace. Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, Founder of Darshan Education Foundation, points out: "If we can include some spiritual teachings in our educational system throughout the world, then fifteen, twenty, or twenty-five years from now, we will turn out human beings who would have love and compassion in their hearts for other human beings. This would bring about an era in which people would try to help each other, rather than accumulate as much as they can for themselves. We will see that with time we will enter into a golden age in which we will be concerned about the welfare of our neighbors, the welfare of our society, and the welfare of all on a global level."

A spiritual curriculum has been developed for the Darshan Academy schools, which includes lessons on peace studies, conflict resolution, nonviolence, communication, and developing love for all. Students start the day with ten minutes of silent meditation, which enables them to find inner peace and happiness.

The school provides a fully integrated, holistic educational system to develop each student's body, mind, and soul. The school aims to turn out individuals who have a strong theoretical and academic knowledge coupled with the ability to apply their knowledge to bettering their own lives as well as the lives of their families, their society, their country, and the world. One of the aims of knowledge is service, to become a contributing member of society and to help improve the human condition.
